nThe dead period has come upon us. With not just projects but school coming to a halt due to the very strange and bizarre coronavirus. We obviously can't follow through with any sort of lunch for the seniors, especially with restaurants closing. Before however we did contact and try to set up dates for our next lunch in. We contacted Qdoba having high hopes when the manager told us to email her to get some sort of donation. Only that backfired and they never responded to our email. That's okay, moreover we contacted Chick-Fil-A! Having no answer to the first call we decided to try and call again later that week. A very nice lady helped us with getting a date set up and set us an email to just get basic information and a donation form. Only thing wrong with this lunch in would be that it would take about a month to get the donated food. So we had a little time to squeeze in another Riley Lunch Bunch. My partners and I settled on donuts in the morning. Calling place to place getting information that they would contact us back. Only strike two on the whole "contacting us back." Moving forward like I said before unfortunately we are out of school so there will be no way to continue on this project. Hoping this all passes soon so we can get back to school and finish out such a great senior year.

Another lunch down!! This time we decided to have wings and desserts! So we looked all around to see which restaurants we could get food donated, also restaurant that weren't too far. We made this lunch for B lunch so we had to rush a little, but not too bad. We chose The Sugar Creel Brickhouse and Dairy Queen, because we had connections with both spots. Brickhouse was all on board with donating wings that could feed 15 people. Dairy Queen unfortunately couldn't donate any cakes because their big freezers broke and they lost 140 cakes. So, instead we just went to our local Needlers and grabbed drinks and cookies. We had to pay with our own money, only we got it reimbursed and got our personal money back. Initially we had 13 people agree to do it but only 4 of the 13 followed through. With that being said we had all these wings and no one to eat them. The boys went back down to the cafeteria and scanned for other to eat all the wings we had. The tables turned and we actually got some under class men and our own service learning class to come eat all the wings we had supplied. We started with 10 dollars a person, only as the food got fewer and fewer we sold it for 5 dollars. Which mainly our service class finished off everything we had! We ended up making $135, so I would say it was a huge success! We are now planning our next lunch!
I've started a new project on top of my other project "Game Day Experience." The Riley lunch bunch is a lunch provided by myself and my partners, Brody and Eric, for the seniors of 2020. The money we collect from the lunches will go to Riley Children's Hospital. We got this idea from past service learning classes, so therefore it is a legacy project. This was an easier project to pick because we already had all the resources we needed in order to set it up! So, we read over what exactly needs to be done, and even contacted some of the past people that also did it. We then made a list of local restaurants and made google form to see if anyone would be interested in the idea. I will provide the link on the side if you would like to check it out! What the form included was which restaurants they would like to have, what lunch they are in, and obviously their name. We also provided a little information about it and the price range they would have to pay. We actually got amazing feedback from the forms! So, we got started off by calling restaurants to see who can donate and how much we can get from our top pick food choices. We got the information we needed, we set a date to provide a lunch and got going! February 5th rolls around, our first lunch bunch! Mama Nitas and The Cake Hole! They both gave us a free donation, Mama Nitas provided us with 6 pizzas, 2 bags of breadsticks and cheese cups. The Cake Hole gave us 18 cupcakes and lots of cake pops! We are extremely thankful for their donation and support! We then brought it back for only Lunch A signees. How we choose who gets to eat was the old rule of "first come first serve," which actually worked out. After, we had some food left over so some teachers came in and saw then paid us for some pizza and cupcakes! We had to provide drinks, but that wasn't a huge deal! We decided to have everyone pay 5 dollars as well. All in all huge success for the first lunch and hopefully we keep having students interested with the different food options.
